23 August 1305: The trial and execution in London of Sir William Wallace, one time Guardian of Scotland. After the execution of William Wallace, his body was cut into four separate pieces and shown around the country to demonstrate what would happen to rebels and traitors of the King. Wallace’s head was put on display upon a pike on London Bridge. Wallace’s limbs were sent separately to Berwick, Stirling, Perth, and Newcastle.
